Alan had a very intelligent mind but it was a different sort of intelligence to mine. He would go to bed with mathematical problems and solve them before he went to sleep. He used wordsearches (difficult ones)for enjoyment and he absolutely loved University Challenge. His intelligence did not always include common sense (as with a lot of intelligent people).
